Pedicure Pleasures: Downloads From My 1st Ever Pedicure

Getting a pedicure for the first time has taught me a valuable lesson in self care. And actually it wasn’t even getting the pedicure itself -- but it was doing the prep on my own the day before! I don’t always realize it, but I’m on my feet A LOT! They LITERALLY carry me — and yet I pay so little attention to them let alone appreciate and pamper them. I’ve always painted my toes just because I like to have fun colors on my toes since most of my life I never put any on my fingers. But to actually TAKE CARE of them? That I’ve never done! Admitting that out loud is actually so wild to me!
The night before my pedicure, I decided to remove my nail polish and trim my nails in preparation for the next day. That’s when the download got ya’ll! In the process of preparing, I realized I’ve never really catered to my cuticles or done any exfoliation. When I shower and exfoliate the rest of my entire body, somehow my feet always get left out. Even when I moisturize my body after a shower, 9 time out of 10 I don’t put lotion on the soles of my feet and even when I put it on the tops of my feet, it’s mostly only because I had excess lotion! Like wtf??

Why is that? Honestly I don’t know. I really don’t have an answer as to the reason for why I neglect to care for the body part that literally carries me wherever I go. I never give myself a foot massage, or tend to my cuticles, I never moisturize, or exfoliate and I haven’t the faintest idea why for the time being. Usually I would wrack my brain trying to divine what possible reason there could be for this behavior but for now I am content not knowing why and simply being grateful that I have made myself aware of this pattern. Right now I don’t need the answer, all I need is the joy of how good it feels to become more self aware and to adjust my behavior in a way that better loves and cares for me and for my beautiful body. Maybe someday it’ll come to me why I’ve neglected to care for a sacred body part more than all the others but for now imma just lean into this intuitive download and care for my feet and myself with more intention and consciousness.

Having an actual first pedicure after this download just made it the much sweeter and that much more of a spiritual practice in love and gratitude. I feel like a lot of people think that getting a mani or a pedi is like a shallow or vain thing to do but it’s actually spiritual af. If you know you know. 🤷🏻♀️
I went on an on about what a transcendent experience it was for me to my partner and told him that I wanted to take him to get one for his birthday. He was down, though didn't expect what an experience it would be but two weeks after I had my first pedicure, I took him for one on his birthday. We sat in the chairs together talking about how little attention we pay to the body part that carries us and how many pressure points are in the foot that link to so many different areas of the body. We discussed the importance of caring for ones self and how it's not about vanity or gender assignments but simply about caring for ones self even if others don't get it. Ultimately we decided that this would become a monthly ritual in self care that we would do together as often as we could and he went on through the rest of his day raving about how wonderful he felt and how he was so shook by the experience. (Shout out to myself for nailing that birthday magic! yay!💃🏽😂)
This is a lesson in true self care ya’ll and it's a lesson for absolutely everyone. Being shallow or vain has nothing to do with it!
I truly hope that you pay a little extra attention today to the parts of you that get so little of your attention. Whether that's something physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, or all of the above, i hope you are able to see it and to do something about it. I hope you choose to love yourself tenderly today and to take sweet care beloved. Sometimes the biggest breakthrough are found in the smallest of things.

Goodness & Abundance 💋
