Art - The Antidote for Perfectionism

Art is helping me heal my perfectionist tendencies the way nothing else ever has. Art IS the antidote to perfectionism when you truly surrender to it. One of the most valuable lessons I have learned in my artistic journey is that the most important part about art, next to creating intuitively, is letting go of narrow expectation.

Art it’s self is wide in nature so trying to make something be what it is not will never allow for an enjoyable artistic experience. Trying to squish something to big and expansive into a tiny little neat container just won’t work.

So why try to force it to? Why not surrender to the bigness and grant yourself permission to explore the vast nature of what art is? Why not learn the magic of experiencing the wide spectrum of art?

Instead of trying to control the uncontrollable and make narrow what is wide -- simply choose to let the experience be what it was meant to be. Letting go of the need to bend things to your will is something art is really good at facilitating. Choose not to be too hard on yourself if things don’t turn out exactly how you envisioned. Remember that while it’s ok to have a vision, it’s not the end of the world if those visions don’t always come to life exactly how you imagined. Who knows, they might turn out even better than you imagined. 😉💋

If you’re a recovering perfectionist or still very much in the throes of perfectionism, art therapy could be a facilitator of clarity and healing. I know it has been for me and maybe it can be for you too. Give it try beloved, because without experimentation there is no expansion.
