Connect to yourself through MOVEMENT

Updated: Jan 30, 2021

What are you doing for you? How are you loving and taking care of yourself?

These are questions a very good friend of mine asked me some time ago and I’m glad she did. At the time I didn’t fully comprehend the importance of such questions and was even uncomfortable when I realized I didn’t really have an answer to those questions. Or better yet when I realized the answer was really just, “nothing”.

Mind : intellect, personality

Heart : emotion, nature

Soul : spirituality, essence

Body : the sacred vessel which holds all these.

Often times, much to my chagrin, I’m guilty of forgetting that every one of these aspects of my being are deeply woven together. When I neglect one of them all the rest suffer whether or not I realize it right away.

I believe in the importance of this perspective as I’m growing into a better version of myself and I am actively working towards giving all these part of myself the nutrients they need to not just grow, but to thrive through healthy habits, consistency, deeper understanding, and divine intervention.

I realize the importance of feeding these things individually and I also recognize the importance of finding ways to incorporate all the these aspects into a single practice, bringing them together as they are intended to be. Unified.

Maintaining balance is never easy which is strange as most of the time the term “balance” seems simple enough. In real life it can become very complicated and abstract, even seemingly unattainable. The older I get the deeper I understand the importance of the practice of balance. However, in order to maintain balance you first have to find it. I’m in the first step of that process of finding it, next comes practicing it in different way to find out what works for me, adapting along the way, and next is the maintenance.

Finding and maintaining balance used to be (as in literally a few days ago) a task that seemed so overwhelming to me, I didn’t even know where to start. But the trick isn’t to find the perfect beginning, it’s simply just to begin. To take that first step. To take action with the body, what the mind is thinking, the heart is feeling and the soul is craving. To open yourself up tp success and failure equally and to have patience while trusting the process. The physical practice I am currently work on to unify my being is breathing and stretching. To bring mind, heart, soul, and body together and begin to manifest balance within myself at the start of my day. Every time I do this practice I feel such a difference in myself and it only takes a few intentional minutes a day to unify myself.

This is one of the ways I'm choosing to love myself intentionally, to better understand myself and my needs so I can better understand, love, and care for others. I'm sharing this to be transparent and I hope my story will resonate with you.
